Happy 40th Mike

It was my brother-in-law Mike's 40th Birthday yesterday. My sister, Stacie, went all out to give him a wonderful surprise day. It started off with a family party at Classic Skating Rink. She rented out the whole rink for a private party. Next we all went to Su Casa for lunch. He then went for an hour massage at Sanctuary Day Spa. After that, he got to go to the airport and fly a plane. They topped off the night with a meal at Cheesecake Factory.

Mike used to work as a DJ at the 49th Street Galleria roller rink when he was in high school. This is why Stacie decided to have a "throw back" party for him. He put up his collar and someone let him wear a vest to look more 80's. Here is Mike having fun being the DJ.
Some people really went all out looking like they were from the 80's. I could not find anything. Ron decided to wear his Iron Maiden t-shirt, since that is pretty much all he wore back then.
They didn't have skates small enough for Lucas, but he loved to hold our hands and walk around the rink with us while we skated. It was so cute! At one point, he looked up at me and said, "Mommy, I skate!" It was his version of skating.
The favorite thing that Lucas did all day was play the video games. He and Ron probably played them for at least one hour. He really loved this motorcycle game.

Happy 40th Birthday Mike! Just remember, you aren't the only one in the family turning 40 this year. I know a few men who are right behind you. :)

Make-A-Wish for Gavin

I am not sure all of you know this.... My cousin, Becci, has a son named Gavin. He is 9 years old and has been fighting Leukemia for a year. Thankfully, he is in remission and doing well. He recently got granted a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They are a wonderful foundation that grants wishes to kids that are ill.

When filling out the paperwork for Gavin's wish, Becci stated that he likes car racing. When his wish was to be granted, Make-A-Wish called Becci and asked if Gavin would like to go to France to see the Grand Prix. Becci said that she would have to ask him if that is what he would like to do. Gavin said, "No, I would just like to go somewhere with a beach and relax." The wish was granted and they are going to Maui. I think that is the cutest story. That shows the difference of thinking between a 9 year old and an adult. What adult would not want to go to France? :)

Crazy Hair, Disney on Ice and Poor Ron

We have had a really busy couple of weeks. Here are a few highlights.
Lucas and I stayed up at my sister Stacie's house for 3 days while she and her husband, Mike, were in St. George on business. I was quite busy. I was the official chauffeur. I took Angelina to school, orchestra, softball and volleyball. We did have a little time out to play Rock Band and go to Cafe Rio. Kelby was also there but, it didn't seem like it. He had school and then work each night. The last day that I was there, it was crazy hair day at Angelina's school. This is what kind of hair you get with back combing, crimping, braiding, color spray and a LOT of Aqua Net hairspray!
We took Lucas to Disney on Ice Mickey and Minnie's Magic Journey. It was the first of this type of performance that he has ever been to. He had a ball. He absolutely LOVES Mickey! He was so excited when they came out on the ice. He was clapping and cheering. It was so cute. As you can see, he also really enjoyed the napkin that we got from the snack bar. Trust my child to love something so silly. I must say that it probably would have been good if it was over at intermission. He is still a little young for such a long show. He did start to get restless and talk to all the people around us.

Last week Ron had ear surgery. He had a hole in his eardrum and a cholesteatoma growing inside. They went in to get it all fixed up. The doctor, Robert Hunter, said that all looked good and it was a successful surgery. He does have to go back in December to have a follow up surgery to make sure the cholesteatoma is gone and not growing back. The doctor said that CT scans are not always accurate on detecting them, so it is just better to make sure that it is all gone. Ron has done really well and has bounced back quite nicely. He won't be able to hear for 3-4 weeks out of that ear. If anyone ever needs a good ear doctor, we love him. He is located at IMC.
